FITZROY HARBOR CLASSIC BY JR TREMBLAY
It all started with talk of a metric century around Carp. It turned out to be a ride from Vincent’s and Diane’s house to Brian’s and Maureen’s cottage and back. One of the best rides of the year.
We met at Vincent’s for a 10 am start. (that means leave at 10 David) Thanks to his new Garmin 1000, Brian was quick to announce the temperature at the start was 4C. So, it was a pretty slow start. A bright sunny day, but the temperature did not start to warm up until we hit the first hill.
The roads were pretty quiet and flat with some minor climbs. We made it to the half way point just before noon. Maureen had prepared lots of food, nice blueberry muffins, with great coffee; putting Starbucks to shame.
The return home turned out to be faster than expected. The weather warmed up quite nicely, added to a tail wind, it was nice and fast.
Vincent and Diane didn’t get much of a break having a dozen hungry cyclists sitting in the back room smelling the patties. Vincent showing his BBQ skills, the hamburgers were very good. I don’t think there was much food left once everyone was gone. We spent the rest of the afternoon with our feet up exchanging good stories.
Nothing like sitting on your bike all day with a bunch of friends, followed by good food and cold beer. Doesn’t get much better than that.
