Gold Coast Marathon
A race report from the K2J down under division!
A quick race report for you from this side of the globe. I ran the Gold Coast marathon on Sunday, my second time up there. The course has the reputation as Australia’s fastest marathon and the only course in Aus with sub 2.10 male finishing times. It's flat and fast with very few turns.
The race started at 7.20am and was a fairly cool 9 degrees (apologies for SI units 😀). I was pretty happy with my pace, maintaining a consistent 4 min per km average from the gun right up until about the 35km mark. However, between 9 and 10am the temperature shot up to about 20 degrees and the clear skies made it pretty warm. That and the tiredness in my legs meant I hit the wall at around 38km. I battled to the finish dropping about 3min30 off my target pace, but still finished in 2hr53.38 and a pb of just over four minutes. Good ennough for 133rd overall from a field of about 5500.
The view from our apartment,
Well worth the effort for those considering a marathon down under!
